The caffeine from Green Tea and added caffeine, by inhibition ofphosphodiesterase, can stimulate lipolysis and increase the resting metabolic rate insome persons, thus increasing the removal and oxidation of fat from adipose tissuestores. Green Tea is also a source of powerful antioxidants (polyphenols), andquercetin, a flavonol found in many fruits, vegetables and herbs, is likewise a potentantioxidant. Biological antioxidants can scavenge and destroy free radicals, whichare reactive agents formed in the body and which can damage cell membranes andmetabolic intermediates susceptible to oxidation.
